Aberdeen Dive Team

The Aberdeen Swim team has been competing for over 20 years and we have grown to one of the largest teams in Harford County. It’s great to see our kids compete and improve their times.

The Aberdeen Diving team is just starting our second year in the Central Md. Dive League. We are still accepting registrations for anyone who is interested in joining the team. We need some more kids (especially boys and 13 & over) who want to learn how to look better and develop some new skills. Practice starts Wednesday night (June 2nd) and I’ve attached the practice schedule.

Last year, all of our divers (and their parents) were amazed at some of the dives they learned and their improvement as the season progressed. Many of the kids were scared at learning some new dives (like flips or back dives) but once they did it, their confidence level shot up. Diving is a great sport to teach your kids to overcome their fears and build their confidence.

If you (or your kids) are interested, but not sure about joining the diving team, you may come to two practices to try it out before signing up and paying the fee. Also, unlike last year, we will have three home meets this year (July 1st, 8th, and 15th) so we will have less traveling and opportunities to have relatives come and watch your kids. 2010 Penguin Registration UPDATE

Thanks to all the penguin families for showing up at registration tonight! We had a great turn out. If you are a returning penguin and did not make it to registration please contact Lauri ASAP. At this point the only age group we need to close is the 11/12 girls. All other age groups remain open for Thursdays registration. The age groups will be filled on a first come first served basis.

2010 Penguins Registration

In case you have not heard the Boys and Girls Club will be running the pool this year and sponsoring our swim team. Registration for the Penguin Swim Team will be held at the HdG Activity Center (located behind the HdG Middle School) on the following dates:

Tuesday, April 27, 6:00-8:00 (for returning swimmers and their siblings only)
***if you are a returning member and are not able to make the April 27th date please call me and make arrangements to have your paperwork in by the 27th. Any open spots will be available for new members on Thursday, the 29th.

Thursday, April 29, 6:00-8:00 (open to all as long as age group has openings)
**please check here for any age groups that are at capacity before registering on April 29th.

Below is the swim team registration form along with the Boys & Girls Club membership. All swim team members must join the Boys & Girls Club for insurance reasons. The $12 Boys and Girls Club fee is included in your swim team registration fee.

There is also a membership form for the pool. The Boys & Girls Club has dropped pool membership fees to encourage new members to join. As you will see the non-member swim team rate is much higher than the member rate, this is also to encourage membership at the pool.

Valleybrook Gators Mini-Meet Invitational - June 6th

The Valleybrook meet is for young swimmers and new swimmers. It is an indoor pool at Magnolia Middle. If you have never been to a swim meet it is an opportunity to participate or just watch!

Penguin Update 4/16/2009

Just a reminder:

It’s time to register for swim team. We will be holding registrations at the Havre de Grace Activity Center (behind Havre de Grace Middle School) this Sunday April 19 and next Sunday April 26 from 2:00-4:00.

Please come prepared to sign up to volunteer at 3 meets.

You will also have a chance to pre-order you swim team suits, t-shirts, etc. at registration. We will not have suits to try on, you can order only if you are sure of your size. The pre-orders will be in the last week in May when we have the regular swim suit try on and order date.

Our morning practice schedule for this year will be as follows:

Session 1- 8:30-9:30 more experienced swimmers (swimmers who can legally swim all 4 strokes as well as IM)

Session 2- 9:30-10:30 less experienced swimmers

After all registrations have been received swimmers will be assigned a session and a coach. These will be posted at the parent meeting as well as in an e-mail.

The following is a schedule for the first week of practice…

Please come prepared with tennis shoes for dry land practice as well as a suit for swimming.

Tues. May 26th- 5:00-5:30 new swimmer and parent meeting (returning swimmers and parents are also welcome!! )
5:30-6:30 session 2 only

Weds. May 27th-5:00-6:00 session 1
6:00-7:00 session 2

Thurs. May 28th 5:00-6:00 session 1

6:00-7:00 session 2

Also **swim suit try on and order

Friday May 29th-5:00-6:00 session 1

We will continue to follow this schedule until June 12th.

Please consider taking a training session to become an official. This is a great way to secure a front row seat at the meets! If you are interested you will need to attend one of the following training sessions. Please let Lauri know if you will be attending. Thank You!

It is mandatory that all officials and stroke and turn officials be at one meeting.

There will be a try-out period for all new swimmers. Your child will have the first week of practice to make a reasonable attempt at swimming a 25 yard lap. They may swim any stroke, as long as they are unassisted. Again, after one week if your child has not progressed to swimming the 25 yards alone we will refund your money and recommend swimming lessons.

Hello Penguin Families,

Hope everyone is having a wonderful winter. I’m sure the warm weather this weekend has everyone thinking about swim. We will be holding swim team registration in April at the HdG Activity Center (located behind the HdG Middle School). Please make every effort to attend registration in April in order to guarantee your child a spot on the team.

Please bring the attached registration form and a check payable to JUST4kids with you to registration. We will also be signing up parents for volunteer dates. We ask that every family volunteer to work three swim meets in some capacity, i.e., snack bar, timing, officiating, score keeping, hanging results, bulkhead, etc.

There will be a try-out period for all new swimmers. Your child will have the first week of practice to make a reasonable attempt at swimming a 25 yard lap. They may swim any stroke, as long as they are unassisted. If your child has not progressed to swimming the 25 yards alone we will suggest other options or refund your money.

If you should decide after the first week of practice (May 29th) that your child is not ready for swim team we will refund your money.

We will be accepting registrations on the following dates:

Sunday, April 19

Sunday, April 26

from 2:00- 4:00

at the HdG Activity Center (located behind HdG Middle School)
Due to the size of our team, please have your registration in by April 26th to guarantee a spot on the team.
